What to Expect from a Custom Wedding Dress Process

A custom wedding dress offers a more considered approach to bridal dressing - one that allows space for individuality, thoughtful design and a piece that feels entirely your own.

At Juliette Hogan Bridal, every bespoke piece begins in our Avondale workroom. From the first consultation through to the final fitting, the process is designed to feel collaborative and personal.

As one of the few fashion designers in New Zealand offering an entirely bespoke bridal service, we work closely with each bride to create a dress that reflects your style, vision and the significance of the occasion. Here's what to expect:

1. The consultation

It begins with a conversation, usually in our workroom in Avondale, Auckland. Juliette and Alice will explore your ideas, references and how you want to feel on your wedding day, whether that's understated, modern, romantic or something in between.

This stage is about direction, not decision-making. It helps us understand your vision before a single sketch, created by Juliette, is finalised.

2. Fabric and silhouette selection

Next, our design team refine the silhouette and explore fabrics. From silk and crepe to satin and chiffon, each choice influences movement, structure and mood.

This is where the dress starts to take shape: balancing your aesthetic with how you want it to feel and move throughout the day.

3. Fittings and refinement

Your bespoke bridal fittings bring the design to life. The dress is adjusted carefully to your body over multiple stages - we suggest two fittings - ensuring fit, comfort and proportion are considered at every step.

It’s an evolving process, from the calico toile of the first fitting to the try on of the finished piece - small refinements that build toward something precise and effortless.

4. The final garment

The third and final fitting is where everything comes together. The result is a made-to-measure wedding dress designed specifically for you - considered in every detail and created to feel natural the moment you wear it.

A piece that reflects your individuality, and remains timeless long after the day itself.
