With the long-term sustainability of the New Zealand fashion industry in mind, and a desire to support up-and-coming talent, JH is proud to offer internships to those with an interest in working within our industry.
These placements take interns behind the scenes, offering insight into the departments and people behind the success of the Juliette Hogan brand.
We talked to fashion student Monet, our most recent intern, about her experience in our Avondale workroom.

Tell us 3 interesting facts about yourself.
I moved from Auckland to Dunedin in my second year of university.
I love sourcing fabric from op shops.
And I enjoy dyeing fabric and experimenting with draping.
What are you currently studying?
I am in my final year of a Bachelor of Design (Fashion) at Otago Polytechnic, and am about to begin designing my graduate collection.
Why did you want to intern with Juliette Hogan, and what were you hoping to gain?
I applied for an internship at Juliette Hogan to learn more about the fashion industry and how the company operates. I was interested in seeing all the different roles involved in creating garments and running a fashion business, as well as learning more about the brand's approach to sustainability. I hoped to gain experience and knowledge from the internship, and I definitely did.
What is the most interesting thing you have learnt during your time at Juliette Hogan, and any new skills, techniques or knowledge?
I learnt about the production process and all the different roles that work together to create garments and run the business. I learnt about samples, toiles, first-offs, cutters, machinists, and the marketing and content side of the brand.
I learnt so many things that you don't learn at university, and it gave me a much better understanding of how everything comes together.
Were there any surprises during your experience?
One of the biggest surprises was getting to visit the fabric suppliers and see the huge range of fabrics they had. They showed me their bridal fabrics and gave me a tour, which was a really cool experience.
I also enjoyed seeing the cutters' and machinists' workrooms, as it gave me a better understanding of the production process. I was also surprised to have the opportunity to sit in on a New Zealand Fashion Week marketing meeting and see how they planned the content they would create and post for the event.
Would you recommend an internship with a fashion brand to other students? Why or why not?
Yes, definitely. It was such a great experience, and I would recommend it to anyone studying fashion. You learn so much, get to work alongside people in the industry, and experience things you wouldn't normally get to at university.
How has this internship helped you for your future studies and career?
It has helped me realise all the different jobs there are in the fashion industry. I learnt more about the design process, and I'll carry what I've learnt through the rest of my studies. It has given me so much knowledge and valuable experience that will help me in my future career.
What is your advice for future JH interns?
Enjoy the experience and ask lots of questions. It's an amazing place to learn, and everyone is so welcoming, supportive, and happy to answer your questions. Make the most of every opportunity, as you'll learn so much during your time there.
