Many skilled hands go into making a Juliette Hogan garment. There is value in knowing the story behind what we wear: the people, skill and care that go into creating it.
As part of our Behind the Garment series, we're sharing the journey of the Aria Dress to give you a closer look at the work behind a JH piece, and what goes into making clothes to be worn, re-worn and loved.
Summer Daze Crush and Blush Petals began as photos of flowers, layered into collages then pushed through distortion, scale and colour by our graphic designer Georgia.
Before there’s a dress, there’s a pattern. Refined by Juliette and Alice through sketches, draping and fittings, it sets the shape and fit.
Sample manager Morgan and machinists Lily and Shirley bring the pattern to life with a one-off sample, refining the fit until it feels right. Once approved, production manager Rebecca orders the required fabric to be printed and costs the garment, factoring in fabric, trims and every step along the way.
The sample is also worn by models for shoots and runway shows. This imagery is used in range books, media stories and on our website to help you shop.
Rolls of printed fabric arrive in our workroom, then go to our cutters who carefully lay out the fabric before cutting each pattern piece.
Cut pattern pieces are bundled into single garments and delivered to local makers. Piece by piece, the garment comes together: seams sewn, trims added, labels stitched in. This is where it starts to look like an actual dress.
Once each piece is finished, it goes from our makers to a local presser, where steam and care smooth every seam - giving its final shape.
Every garment passes through our hands one last time, checked closely in our workroom before it’s ready to leave.
Finished dresses are sorted and prepared by our inventory coordinator Frankie and workroom assistant Caiomhe, then delivered to stores and stockists.
The dress arrives in store, before making its way into your wardrobe, ready to be re-worn and loved.
