At Juliette Hogan, we’re always looking for ways to create a better balance between the pace of work and the richness of life outside it. Just over a year ago, we introduced a 9-day fortnight – or as we call it, Freda Fridays.
Named from the idea of a 'Free Day', Freda days gift our full-time team—across both head office and retail—every second Friday off. 90% hours, 100% pay. It’s a simple but powerful shift that has opened up space for creativity, rest, and reconnection.
For me, it’s meant mornings without meetings, time to reset after full weeks of designing, and the quiet joy of finishing a puzzle after school drop-off. These moments may seem small, but they have become deeply restorative.
What’s been most rewarding is seeing how our wider team has embraced this time. Long walks, family catch-ups, road trips, dog park visits, time to read, time to simply be. The stories are varied, but the feeling is shared – more room to breathe, and a renewed sense of balance.
We’ve shared a gallery below of how Freda Fridays are being used across Team JH – from snapshots to reflections on what this extra day means.
If you’re a business owner curious about how this might work for your team, we’d love to talk. Shifting the rhythm of the work week isn’t always easy – but for us, it’s been a game-changer.

Juliette
